Below is the information received from Michael Hawley, the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Board of Optometry in regards to the 2019 License Renewal.
· The renewal mailing is expected to go out this week. This is later than in previous years due to changes in the form.
· The licenses expire on January 31. So licensees should renew as soon as they can.
· On-line renewal is available now. So licensees can go to our web site and renew without mailing back the renewal coupons.
·It is no longer legal to be licensed without having applied to be a MassHealth provider. There are two categories of provider. One category does not bill. The other does. The requirement applies even if the doctor does not accept MassHealth or does not live or practice in Massachusetts.
· Also, please note that, although the licenses expire on January 31, all continuing education must be completed during calendar year 2018. Optometrists who do not complete the CEs may be subject to discipline. Any licensees who, for good reason, are not able to complete the CEs by year end should have already submitted a request for an extension. Requests received after the year end will not be considered.
